DataFest, our two week long festival of data innovation is now only a month away!
We’ve just announced details on more of the speakers that we will be welcoming to DataSummit, the two-day international conference element of the festival on 19 & 20 March. We’ve selected a really diverse range of people to come and talk to you about the ground breaking work they are doing with data science and AI. They are fascinating individuals with really interesting stories to tell that we hope will inspire you to push the work you are doing with data further.
DataSummit19 was such a success last year and the feedback from attendees was amazing, but we’re certain that DataSummit20 is going to top that! Have you got your ticket yet?
More amazing speakers join the line up for DataSummit20
The newly announced speakers are: Chief Analytics Officer at Accenture, Athina Kanioura; astrophysicist, science broadcaster & emergency medicine doctor, Kevin Fong; entrepreneur, author and director of football Brentford FC, FC Midtjylland, Rasmus Ankerson; Founder, The Female LeadDirector, Starcount, Edwina Dunn; and AI curator Luba Elliott.
They will be joining the previously announced speakers, Mathematician and broadcaster, Hannah Fry; Campaigner and Author of Invisible Women, Caroline Criado-Perez; entrepreneur Priya Lakhani; and British statistician, David Spiegelhalter, known as ‘Professor Risk’, and the world-famous astronaut, Tim Peake.

Athina Kanioura
An accomplished innovator and data scientist, Dr. Athina Kanioura was a founding member of Accenture’s analytics business where she ran sales and customer analytics globally and drove the company’s offering development around customer relationship management and personalization. As Accenture’s Global Data Science lead for the past two years, she grew Accenture’s data science team to more than 3,000 strong. Most recently, she helped clients from the consumer goods, banking and telecommunications industry, where she is known for her deep relevance and impact.
Kevin Fong
Kevin is both astrophysicist, medical specialist and a natural storyteller. After working with NASA he specialised in lessons from the effects of extremes on human physiology. He is also part of hospital Emergency Response and Major Incident Planning, as well as an air ambulance Emergency Doctor. All of this provides a unique insight into how we all cope with risk and making decisions under pressure, as well as teamwork. He’s published Extremes – probing the limits of the human body, and presented science programmes covering everything from travelling to Mars to the Klondike gold rush.
Rasmus Ankerson
Rasmus Ankersen is a bestselling author, entrepreneur, speaker on performance development and a trusted advisor to businesses and athletes around the world. In 2012 Rasmus published The Gold Mine Effect, in which he explores how some countries and cities develop a disproportionate amount of top talent. In 2016 Rasmus published Hunger in Paradise: a book about how successful organisations can remain successful by eliminating complacency. Rasmus is also the chairman of FC Midtjylland, his childhood football club in Denmark, and a director of the English club Brentford FC. Both are known as some of the world’s most innovative football clubs, especially recognised for their use of big data to drive decision-making.
Edwina Dunn
Edwina Dunn is one of the most successful leaders in the data industry, with a career of delivering transformational business change, together with her long term partner, Clive Humby. Dunn & Humby revolutionised the world of retail and consumer goods when they pioneered Tesco Clubcard and other global loyalty programmes, eventually selling dunnhumby to Tesco in 2011 At this stage, the business had 1,500 employees across 25 countries and managing engagement strategies for 350 million customers including Kroger, Macy’s and Best Buy. Edwina is now forging a new era of consumer insight and technology with Starcount. Her business is already working with some of the biggest and best global brands looking for new customer journey tracking and npd.
Luba Elliott
Luba Elliott is a curator and researcher specialising in artificial intelligence in the creative industries. She is currently working to educate and engage the broader public about the latest developments in AI art through talks, workshops and exhibitions at venues across the art and technology spectrum including The Photographers’ Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, Seoul MediaCity Biennale, FACT Liverpool, Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, CogX and ICCV. Her recent curatorial projects include the award-winning ART-AI Festival, NeurIPS Creativity Workshop and the online gallery aiartonline.com. She has advised organisations including The World Economic Forum, British Council and City University on the topic and was featured on the BBC, Forbes and The Guardian. Previously, she worked in startups and venture capital and has a degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University.
