Get the data talent you need to innovate and grow
Business has woken up to the importance of data. Demand for data skills (analysts, engineers and scientists) is therefore high and there is stiff competition for the best and brightest in the field. To help industry access the people it needs to thrive, we work to connect businesses to Scotland’s rich pool of data talent.
What businesses can we help?
Join the 1,000s of businesses who’ve worked with us
We work with organisations large, medium and small across all sectors – from communication and information providers to hospitality and food and beverage suppliers. Over 1,000 Scottish-based companies have engaged with us, many directly benefiting from the connections we’ve helped them make to the vibrant Scottish data and technology ecosystem.
How will The Data Lab help you find talent?
The Data Lab can help your business access talent in the following ways:
- Partner with the Data Lab Academy to access our existing talent connections and support us in growing the future pipeline of expertise.
- Data Talent: We organise Data Talent Scotland’s largest data and AI recruitment event. This brings together fresh talent from across Scotland with organisations (in the public, private and third sector) that are actively recruiting for a variety of roles in the fields of data science and AI.
- Placement programmes: We run a number of successful placement programmes that provide industry with access to some of Scotland’s brightest data-science post-graduates at both masters and doctorate level. Many of our placement students are offered long-term employment (a try-before-you-buy opportunity).
- The Data Lab Community: enables data and AI professionals, academics, students and other enthusiasts to connect, collaborate and learn from each other. The job board provides an opportunity to promote open vacancies to our wide network of data talent.

Hear from companies that have accessed talent through us:
“The Data Lab PhD programme is a phenomenal resource, especially for smaller organisations like ours which need to use data but don’t have the knowledge or know-how internally. The Data Lab initially helped develop our organisation from ideation to commercial reality and working with its PhD and MSc programme was the obvious next step for us. Our initial impression of the graduate students was extremely positive, they have such open minds and are determined to find the answers to questions I hadn’t ever thought of. Overall, the support The Data Lab has provided has been invaluable and we plan to work with as many students as we can to drive our business forward while also helping them gain hands-on experience.”
Dr Katherine Gunderson
CEO and Founder, Grand Bequest
“There is no downside to participating in The Data Lab’s MSc graduate programme. Everyone – companies, graduates, and the data and technology sector as a whole – sees real and tangible benefits from it. For Scottish businesses, it’s a fantastic opportunity to better understand how they can use data science internally while also giving students and recent graduates practical experience.
We are extremely impressed at the calibre of The Data Lab MSc graduate students we’ve met so far and participating in the programme has exceeded our expectations. The students are proactive and very excited to take on responsibility; their enthusiasm spreads throughout the team and brings an influx of positivity into the workplace”
