
Women in Data Science: 7th – 10th February 2022
Advances in digital technologies and the use of data are happening rapidly. Scotland’s digital technology sector is growing at twice the rate of any other sector and there is an unprecedented demand for ICT and digital technology professionals and individuals with big data and data science skills. There is an estimated 10,000 digital technology vacancies every year in the UK and over 70,000 more new jobs will be created in Scotland alone by 2022. Data is the future!
Equate Scotland in collaboration with The Data Lab and CodeClan are delighted to offer this 3.5 day online experiential learning event for Women in Data Science. Attendance at this course will help increase your awareness and understanding of data science by developing and enhancing your skills and abilities so you can apply ground-breaking data science in the real world.
So, if you are a woman studying at undergraduate or college level, a career changer or a professional woman in STEM looking to reskill or upskill with an interest in learning key Data Science skills, then this opportunity is for you. No previous knowledge or experience of data science is required in order to complete the course. Join us on this virtual live experiential learning course to demystify data!
AGENDA
Day 1 – Driving Value from Data and AI – The Data Lab, 9.30 am to 4 pm
An introduction to the business world of data – Data Science in context. This session will give you the ability to:
- Understand how organisations use data and A.I to drive value
- Identify and classify opportunities within your studies or organisation to apply data science
- Gain an appreciation of what, beyond the data, is needed for project success
- Discussion on the skills required to be a data scientist
- An opportunity to ask lots of questions and to discuss with practitioners and peers
Day 2 & 3 – Python for Data Analysis – CodeClan, 9.00 am until 5 pm
Python is becoming an ever more popular tool for data analysis and data science. This course is a fully interactive, virtual live learning experience led by CodeClan expert instructors. Over the two days you will learn:
- Python basics and an introduction to writing code
- Working with Jupyter notebooks
- Using Pandas to manipulate and analyse data
- Making plots using Seaborn
Day 4 – Next Steps & Support for Women In STEM – Equate Scotland, 9.30 am until 11 am
This wrap up session will discuss next steps and how Equate Scotland can further support you as a women in STEM, including placement opportunities, women returner opportunities, career clinics and CV reviews. This session will also feature presentations from women who have successfully made the transition to a data science career.
