The Data Lab is glad to announce that we will be running a first of its kind three-week Data Science Summer School in Edinburgh this June. This professional development programme is a great opportunity for those individuals already in employment who would like to develop their skills further in areas including Introduction to Data Science, Python, Machine Learning, Data Visualisation and Verbalisation. The programme will allow companies to train those who already understand their business to leverage the latest data tools and techniques, and help eliminate recruitment and onboarding costs while keeping staff engaged in their data science development.
The programme
The summer school will be delivered by international instructors with deep industry experience who have a track record of corporate training and partnership at leading multinational firms in numerous verticals. The programme has a strong focus and weighting to learning through practical exercises and projects in collaboration with other students. To achieve this, it is designed to deliver dynamic live course material that allows for in-place execution of examples (not just course printouts and lecture notes), and provides a team learning environment where trainees are clustered in small groups and encouraged to leverage group knowledge to achieve individual success. The course also provides automated grading with realtime feedback for students and realtime access to grades for administrators.
The summer school will run for three weeks, starting on Monday 30 May 2016, and will take place in Edinburgh. We expect to facilitate training for up to 50 students from industry and the public sector. The programme has a cost of £7,000 per student for the three-week programme, but students can be allowed to enroll in just one or two of the modules.
