The Edinburgh Tourism Innovation Challenge (ETIC) is a three stage programme that aims to create data-driven improvements to Edinburgh’s tourism industry by connecting the tourism and technology sector. The ETIC Innovation Fund, the second stage of the programme, opens today. The fund is sponsored by ETAG and Scottish Enterprise. The Innovation Fund offers up £15,000 to fund 5 different projects with £3,000 each. The projects should focus on solving key challenges that Edinburgh’s tourism industry faces such as navigating and dispersal of visitors, destination discovery and forecasting of tourists.

The Innovation Fund follows on from the first stage of ETIC, the Challenge Weekend, where on the 5th to 8th of October over 120 attendees came together to collaborate on tourist related datasets from Scottish public, private and third sector organisations. The winning team, Budi, created an app that helped spread visitors across different tourist hotspots through gamification and incentives, based on data from IntechnologyWifi and Footfall Data from Edinburgh City Council. Find out more about the ideas generated here. We invite all teams who attended the Challenge Weekend and all those with some innovative ideas to apply for the Innovation Fund.
