September marks one year since we launched The Data Lab Community – a diverse online space where members from across sectors, industries, and geographies could come together to create positive economic and social impact using data and AI (for themselves, their organisations, and those around them.)
Firstly, we’d like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who has joined, engaged, and contributed over the year; we’ve been truly inspired by stories of members helping each other through mentoring, events, forums, and those of you who have built connections to take on new roles.
Secondly, we’re eager to share some of the key Community achievements from over this past year …
️ 1800 members
50 countries
70 industries
40% female members
19% members from ethnic minority backgrounds
50+ mentoring relationships
700+ job postings
1000+ event attendees
3000+ posts & comments
Why did we build a data community?
Back in 2021, we wanted to scale our impact by creating an opportunity for the thousands of you who engage with The Data Lab (TDL) – allowing people to connect with and learn from one another. Over the years, so many of you came to us to say, “We love the TDL mission and values, how can we help?” and we wanted to nurture and build on that connectivity. Investing in the online community allows us to make these connections happen on a much larger scale.
What’s next for TDL Community?
Later this year, more digital tools will be added to the community including courses, a data readiness assessment for businesses, and a funding navigator tool. This is just the start of our journey, our CEO Brian Hills told us,
” We have been invited by our funders to create a plan for investment in TDL over the next 10 years and I believe community, both in person and online will be the key to scaling our impact across Scotland and beyond. Our vision over the next 10 years will be to create the world’s most impactful data community; to enable pioneering collaborations across Scotland, the UK and the world that provide new opportunities for economic and social impact and help you, as our members, move forward successfully on your data journeys.”
We’ve been sharing Community success stories over the past 12 months, however, if you’ve got any that have flown under our radar, we’d LOVE to hear from you! Send them across to community@thedatalab.com
