The Data Lab and the University of Edinburgh are at the beginning of a journey to build a “Data for Children Hub in Scotland” in partnership with UNICEF. Using Scotland’s data capabilities and expertise to solve complex problems facing modern day Scotland and other countries across the world, the Hub will develop a three year programme of work, addressing a range of topical challenges - like how social media use impacts on young people’s wellbeing, how access to both the blue and green natural environment can impact on a young person’s development and wellbeing, improving child health through diet and physical activity, and how we tackle the deprivation gap in attainment.

The Delivery Director for Data for Children Hub in Scotland will be responsible for leading business development and delivery of the UNICEF Data for Children Hub in Scotland (UDCHS). You will combine extensive strategic expertise in leveraging data across a range of public and private sector environments to define and deliver Data for Children Hub in Scotland’s strategy and plans. You will represent the Hub across Scotland and globally, ensuring that the Hub meets stakeholders' aims and objectives and manage resources effectively.

You will lead significant projects in Scotland, including links to the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government, the University of Edinburgh’s Data Driven Innovation Programme and UNICEF’s objectives around the use of data to improve the lives of children in Scotland.

Your role will be to build on the commitments made by the University, UNICEF and Scottish Government to fund a £3m three-year programme from April 2019. A key element of the role will be to develop the Business Plan for the Hub, including the Research Programme, Ethical framework of operation, Governance arrangements and sustainable finance model, beyond the initial three-year period.
