Funding Manager

As part of our preparation for Phase 2 of The Data Lab, you will review and map the national and international funding landscape to identify relevant funders, calls and opportunities that The Data Lab can lever to support the development of Data Science in Scotland. This role will be a crucial part in supporting Scottish efforts to participate in the UK’s Industrial strategy and in other UK/EU/global funding programmes. The role will play a key part in preparing The Data Lab to actively engage in this new area, combining strategic leadership with hands on delivery activity in coordinating an emerging programme of work. You will identify and support the development of collaboration opportunities for Scottish based/led data-science consortia that target non-Scottish funding sources (e.g. Innovate UK, Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, H2020 etc.), including the development and submission of competitive bids and applications.

Business Development Executive - Inverness

The Data Lab are looking to recruit a new BDE to join us in our new Inverness hub to be responsible for the Highlands and Islands geographic area in Scotland.

The BDE will be based in Inverness at An Lòchran, co-located with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), and will work closely with The Data Lab’s other hubs in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The post will include significant travel across the HIE area, and there will be a limited amount of international travel.

This is a high profile role requiring a strong business development and technical background and will be a key role in delivering activities to support HIE’s investment in Phase 2 of The Data Lab. HIE aspires to generate sustainable economic growth in every part of the Highlands and Islands through supporting innovation, investment, internationalisation and inclusive growth.

The BDE’s target, over a five year period, will be to deliver their share of The Data Lab’s Business Development targets (circa 17%) ensuring a minimum of 25 industry led Research & Development projects are created, with a related spend of £500K. Over a ten year period The Data Lab aims to create at least £150m gross value add to the Scottish Economy.

Industrial Doctorate Vacancies

The Data Lab The Data Lab co-funds Industrial Doctorate programmes at Scottish Universities, in collaboration with Scottish industry or public sector organisations. These industrial doctorates are designed to support the development of data science talent at a PhD / EngD level, while facilitating collaboration between industry and academia through applied research projects.
